SUMMARY:Coca-Cola Clean Coasts Week
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Ireland’s spectacular coastline by getting involved in Coca-Cola Clean Coasts Week 2015. The week runs from May 6th – 15th May and there are many ways for you to get involved. See the Coca-Cola Clean Coasts week page for more details. \nThe Clean Coasts team will be attending as many beach cleans in their region as possible as well as organising Coastal Celebration events for local coastal communities. \nWe have all seen the evidence of marine litter along our coastline so for all you beach lovers out there here’s an opportunity to do something positive to combat the problem and also raise awareness about the issue. Why not create your own beach clean event or participate in one. Every piece of litter removed from the coast is a piece of litter that won’t pollute our oceans or harm wildlife.

SUMMARY:Beat the Microbead Day
DESCRIPTION:Clean Coasts will be holding our annual Beat the Microbead Day on May 11th. Microbeads are tiny particles of plastic are ingredients in thousands of personal care products sold around the world. These microbeads\, hardly visible to the naked eye\, flow straight from the bathroom drain into the sewage system. Wastewater treatment plants are not designed to filter out microbeads and so they end up in our oceans. Sea creatures absorb or eat microbeads. These microbeads are passed along the marine food chain. Since humans are ultimately at the top of this food chain\, it is likely that we are also absorbing microbeads from the food we eat. Microbeads are not biodegradable and once they enter the marine environment\, they are impossible to remove.
