DESCRIPTION:Clean Coasts Big Beach Clean weekend will take place on the 15th\, 16th and 17th of September 2017. We are delighted to team up with the International Ocean Conservancy again for the International Coastal Cleanup event. In 2016\, nearly 800\,000 volunteers in over 90 countries removed 8\,193 tonnes of marine litter from the world’s oceans. \nWe hope everyone will join the movement for litter free seas and be part of the world’s largest coastal cleanup event and marine litter survey. The event takes place every year on the 3rd weekend in September. \nRegister and find a cleanup near you here: http://cleancoasts.org/our-initiatives/big-beach-clean/

DESCRIPTION: \n\n\nWe are asking the public to nominate volunteers who they believe have made an outstanding contribution to Ireland’s coastal environment. This year we are looking for entries to the following 6 categories: Group of the Year\, Individual of the Year\, School of the Year\, Business of the Year\, Idea of the Year and Beach Clean of the Year. \nWhat are the Ocean Hero Awards?\nThe Clean Coasts’ Ocean Hero Awards are about honouring the invaluable contribution Ireland’s coastal communities have made towards conserving our spectacular coastline. The awards\, originally called the ‘Clean Coasts’ Merit Awards’\, were conceived in 2006\, consisting then of only one category\, ‘The Clean Coasts’ Group of the Year’. Since then the Clean Coasts’ programme has grown to engage over 550 Clean Coasts groups\, becoming embedded in many coastal communities nationwide. In an effort to recognise this growth the number of Ocean Hero categories have expanded to include six categories. \nOcean Hero Award Nominations\nIf you would like to recognise an individual\, Clean Coasts group\, school\, business or beach clean that made a difference to our coast please fill in the SurveyMonkey form here: surveymonkey.com/r/Ocean-Heroes-2017. \nFor the ‘Idea of Year Award’ we are looking for volunteers who have raised the profile of coastal protection in their community through awareness raising events and interesting initiatives. \nThe nomination process only takes a few minutes and we would love to hear your voice. DESCRIPTION:The tradition of drumming and singing together goes back to the mists of the past and our homo ancestors. In the times of screens\, social media\, migration\, scattered communities\, the need for belonging to a group or a tribe calls us again.  Drum Circle fulfils that need instantly\, you will feel the power of community in action from the very first drum call. Drumming is fun\, reduces stress levels\, brings people together\, creates good memories\, and basically is a perfect tool to boost your positive mental health. A drum circle will take place on 2 beaches in the Republic of Ireland\, Mayo and Kerry\, and a beach in Northern Ireland\, and these activities will be followed by a quick beach clean. \nThere will be a drumming circle event on Rinville Beach\, Oranmore Beach on Monday 5th June.

DESCRIPTION:Clean Coasts Group\, Galway Atlantaquaria\, will be hosting a free Pokémon Beach Safari on Grattan beach\, Salthill\, Galway (beside the Lifeguard station).The event is on the 20th of August at 12pm. Inspired by the phenomenon of Pokémon Go; Galway Atlantaquaria seeks to educate the public about the diversity of Sea life on the Seashore\, where to find it and how to conserve it. \nGalway Atlantaquaria are happy to team up with Clean Coasts Officer for Galway\, Beckey-Finn\, who will run the #2minutebeachclean right after the Safari\, so we can hunt the terrible plastics and rubbish that can harm the environment. \nGalway Atlantaquaria team members will share their knowledge of the Seashore and enable people to understand the importance of the Sea as a home for the wonderful\, diverse sea life found on the shore. We also explain about the habitat and struggle to survive\, before we return all animals to the Sea. Please note with the changeable weather in Galway\, it is a good idea to wear wellies and some warm clothing. \nThis event is open to all\, and while we do have some equipment you are more than welcome to bring a small bucket and net!

The ocean regulates the climate\, feeds millions of people every year\, produces most of the oxygen we breathe\, is the home to an incredible array of wildlife\, provides us with important medicines\, and so  much more! In order to ensure the health and safety of our communities and future generations\, it’s imperative that we take the responsibility to care for the ocean as it cares for us.\nEveryone’s health depends on a clean\, productive ocean. Under the theme of Healthy oceans\, healthy planet\, we encourage our partners and friends to focus on what actions each of us can take to protect the ocean and safeguard vulnerable communities and places. Please focus on whatever issues you think are most important in your community for a healthy ocean future.
