Press Release;

Beach Tag Rugby / #2minuteBeachClean Event

Take Care of Our Oceans in Just 2 Minutes!

Look out for your local #2minutebeachclean station on a beach near you.

An Taisce Clean Coasts programme are delighted to co-host the D4 Strand Tag Blitz with TagRugby.ie, August 20th 2016. What better way to enjoy an active day by the beach than to play in front of the iconic Poolbeg Towers?

Clean Coasts staff will be on hand to assist the running of the event and to spread the word of the #2minutebeachclean initiative.

#2minutebeachclean stations act to raise public awareness of the marine litter on our coastline and how all beach users can make a positive impact in just 2 minutes. #2minutebeachclean campaign has the added incentive of sharing your beach clean which includes you into a beach clean community on instagram/twitter/facebook with the hashtags #2minutebeachclean and #cleancoasts. It’s as easy as that!

The #2minutebeachclean initiative is sponsored by the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government.

Whether you are an experienced tag player or someone who is taking part in their first tag tournament, the D4 Strand Tag Blitz is the perfect event to participate in as it is located on Sandymount Strand in the heart of Dublin 4.

All teams are guaranteed at least 4 x 15 minute matches where they have a chance of winning the Cup, Plate, Bowl or SuperBowl trophies. On top of all that, the Apres Tag Party will take place in later that evening. You can register for this Beach Tag event through the TagRugby.ie web page www.tagrugby.ie/D4StrandTagBlitz.html

Ireland’s National #2minutebeachclean Day was held on the 14th May 2016 during Coca Cola Clean Coast Week. Clean Coasts teamed up with Colm O’Regan (comedian and @irishmammies’ author) to help promote this initiative. Colm O’Regan, stars as empowerment and engagement guru, Benicio Sandz. This video itself is 2 minutes long and was viewed 10,000 times within 24hours of its release online. This added to the popularity of another widely successful Coca-Cola Clean Coasts Week; in which over 150 community groups/schools/businesses around Ireland registered to lead a beach clean in their local area. On top of this Clean Coasts organised over 30 coastal celebration events which ranged from Beach Yoga to Marram Grass planting events. Clean Coasts groups lifted unprecedented 16 tonnes of marine litter from the Irish Coastline during Coca-Cola Clean Coasts Week 2016. Clean Coasts would like to thank all Clean Coasts volunteers who took part during this week all call-to-action, of which there were over 2,5000 volunteers!

The ambition is these #2minutebeachclean stations will enable more beach users to help keep our coastline litter free by giving just 2 minutes of their time before leaving the beach! www.cleancoasts.org
