Marram Grass Transplanting Course – Carrickfinn

Donegal Co. Co. will be holding a marram grass planting course at dune areas badly affected by erosion at Carrickfinn beach in association with Clean Coasts. Clean Coasts Officer for Donegal, Beckey-Finn will be on hand to guide and support those attending.
Everyone who is able for some hard work or interested in dune erosion and marram grass planting is welcome to take part.

Marram Grass, Ammophila arenaria, is the major dune building plant in Ireland. This sand trapping grass can not only help dune systems maintain their positions but reduce blowouts and consolidate areas of loose sands. This practical training workshop will develop skills around; when and how to transplant, sources of supply, correct technique and spacing considerations.

What to bring
- Packed lunch- warm & cold drinks. We will be having lunch outside.
- Appropriate clothing for the weather/practical session and sturdy boots.
- A spade/trowel.
- Secateurs/strong scissors.
