An update from the Clean Coast team

Dear Clean Coasts Volunteers,

Yesterday we celebrated World Oceans Day! Here is what the Clean Coasts team  were up to:

As part of the celebrations, we also hosted a screening of Ken’O Sullivan “Deep Atlantic”, which was followed by an interesting chat with Ken. Finally, we announced that Clean Coasts will be releasing a series from our panel discussion “Ocean Love” with Colm O’Regan and five speakers from different backgrounds. Stay tuned for more!

We were  also so delighted to ear about all the beach cleans and #2minutebeachcleans that took place yesterday and over the weekend, and about all other ways our amazing volunteers decided to spend this day.

We wanted to say thank you, with a short video that is a reminder of what you contribute to protect through your hard work.

Safety first…

As of June 8th, beach clean can resume. However, please remember that we are still under Covid-19 times and so the safety of our volunteers is of the utmost importance. If you are beach cleaning, keep in mind these rules:
  • Adhere to government travel restrictions – within your county or 20km from your home
  • Keep a 2m distance from other people that do not live with you
  • Do not collect any discarded PPE items or tissues
  • Sanitise your hands before and after the beach clean and avoid touching your face
  • Do not share your clean-up kit and wash it before and after you use it
  • Keep groups to a maximum of 15 people
  • Can you bring the litter you collected at home to dispose of it correctly, as local authorities are under great pressure at the moment?
  • Listen to instructions by your group leader. They will also provide you with Clean Coasts bags to use.
  • Keep a list of attendees – to aid contact tracing if needed
Watch this video to find out more.

And remember, if you don’t feel like it’s safe for you to be out doing a beach clean, please don’t do it – take care of yourself and wait until you feel comfortable being out again. Our beautiful coast will still be there for you!

Sharing your work great & inspiring others

Now that we can finally go back to our coast to protect it, we want to share the amazing job that volunteers all around Ireland do to inspire more and more people to join our mission.

So keep sharing your photos and videos with us, if you would like us to share them on social media. However, please keep in mind that we are encouraging people to adhere to HSE guidelines, therefore, if you would like us to share your photos and story:

  • Please make sure people in your pictures are maintaining social distance
  • Groups in the pictures shouldn’t be bigger than 15 people
  • Why not send us an image of just the marine litter you collected, to make sure we will have something to share from your group?

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you,
The Clean Coasts Team
