Coca-Cola Clean Coast Week – Clean-Ups

Coca-Cola Clean Coasts Week 2019 is at the doorstep. Over the course of this week, which will run from 1st – 9th June all over Ireland, volunteers are invited to join a beach clean event or even create their own. 

Registrations are now closed and we are pleased to announce that over 150 groups and over 2,500 volunteers have registered to receive their free beach clean-up kit and will be joining us in our mission to keep our coastline litter-free!

Coca-Cola Clean Coasts Week – Celebration Events

Coca-Cola Clean Coasts Week is also about having fun and enjoying our beautiful coastline! For this reason, individuals and groups are also invited to join us in celebration by attending some of our free coastal celebration events.

Several studies have demonstrated how sport has significant benefits on people’s physical and mental well-being, contributing to people’s ability to lead long healthy lives. These positive effects are similar to the impact that living in a clean environment and contributing to community efforts to protect the place you live in have on individuals well-being.

Along with beach yoga, nature walks, seaweed workshops and family activities, this year plenty of sport events will take place all across the island, including kayaking, stand-up paddling and Poc Fada. The Coca Cola Clean Coasts Week will offer, once again, many opportunities to celebrate the coastline and to #DoGoodFeelGood.

Blue Flag and Green Coast Awards

In May, the International Blue Flag and Green Coast Award recipients for 2019 were announced. 

The Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised eco-labels that wants to raise environmental awareness and promote sound environmental management of beaches, marinas and eco-tourism boats around the world. The Green Coasts Award recognises beaches for their clean environment, excellent water quality and natural beauty and manages sites in partnership with local Clean Coasts groups.

Coastal Projects

Clean Coasts works with businesses throughout Ireland on corporate volunteering days. These businesses support our Clean Coasts grant by ways of a donation for the day. We are hoping to work more closely with Clean Coasts groups in 2019 to support any much needed coastal work that could be completed by our corporate volunteers. The groups vary in size from 10 to 30 and would be delighted to help with any projects that there may be at your adopted beach. Please contact us at cleancoasts@eeu.antaisce.org if you have any suitable projects in mind. 
 

 

Do you have a coastal story?

The Clean Coasts Blog is a collection of stories that touches on the experience of Clean Coasts staff and the coast. There stories vary from finding fossils on Sligo beaches to their experience of cold water swimming. We would love to hear your stories which will be showcased on our social media platforms and website. If you have a story to share or would like to write a piece on becoming a Clean Coasts group or any other experience you would like to share. please let us know. We are looking for short pieces using your own voice.
