‘An Seanchaí’

Two years after the notion of “Let’s buy a boat together” the adventure for ten Irish lads became a reality when they arrived in Malaysia in April 2019 to meet their newly bought 44ft sailing yacht. With huge risks and working hard to raise the funds to buy the boat, albeit little past sailing experience, this was to be an epic adventure for the group of friends from school and college, travelling great distances in the Indo-Pacific oceanic areas. Naming the boat ‘An Seanchaí’ after the title given to old Irish storytellers, the crew have plenty of stories to tell of the challenges and joys that they experienced together. Paul Ryan is from Tipperary and currently works as an engineer on a wind farm in Co. Donegal; Brendan Bolger is from Co. Cork and works as an architect; and Damien Collins from Co. Cork is working on a research programme on vaccines in UCC.
