ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

John McCarthy

Conor Maguire

John McCarthy is from Tramore, run Lahinch surf school in Co. Clare. John has competed on the Irish surf team at the early age of 13 and holds junior and senior titles. He has competed at European and World Surfing Championships. Among many accolades he won a bronze medal in the European surfing championships, and one of a group of surfers who pioneered the ‘Aileen’s wave’ under the cliffs of Moher.

Conor Maguire is from Co. Donegal, and is a leading big wave diver. Nominated for six World Surf League Big Wave Awards and nominated for the big XXL. He got to the top five in the Tube of the Year category. He received an invite to the world-renowned Punta de Galiea XXL in 2017-18, and last year in Ireland surfed what may be Ireland’s largest ever swell at Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo. The size of that monster wave would scare the living daylights out of most of us.
