Hi Clean Coasts group
The end of the summer didn’t stop volunteers all over Ireland: building on the success of the Big beach Clean at the end of last month, plenty of clean-ups have been taking place in October too.
Our Love Your Coast photography competition celebrated its 10th birthday in October this year and the call for nomination for Clean Coasts’ Ocean Heroes is now open!
As always, lots of things are going on, so take a look below to catch up on everything!

You have until Thursday 7th November to nominate your Clean Coasts’ Ocean Hero!
The call for Clean Coasts’ Ocean Hero Awards nominations is now open and Clean Coasts are asking the public to nominate volunteers who they believe have made an outstanding contribution to Ireland’s coastal environment.
Ocean Hero has been recognising the efforts of volunteers nationwide, who work collectively to create a cleaner and more sustainably managed coastline. Make your voice be heard and vote for your Clean Coasts’ Ocean Hero…you only have time until 7th November.

Last chance to submit your Marine Litter Data Card
During the Big Beach Clean, Clean Coasts volunteers were asked to be part of an excellent round the world citizen science data collection project and to carry out marine litter surveys to quantify the amount and types of litter on Irish beaches. The data you collect in this clean up is invaluable to Clean Coasts in helping to raise awareness about the scale of Ireland’s marine litter problem.
This is your last chance to submit the data you collected online or you can take a picture of your Marine Litter Data card and it to us at cleancoasts@eeu.antaisce.org. |

Happy stories from October
Earlier in October, the Crumlin Clean-up Group did a great clean up of the River Poddle, preventing several kg of marine litter entering our waterways. The best part is…they do this every two months!

An amazing clean-up took place in Rossnowlagh Beach, Co. Donegal this month, when over 50 volunteers decided to get involved. After the clean-up, we joined Irish Water for an interesting talk on why you should always Think Before You Flush!

CAPA The Global Education Network students and staff told us about their beach clean organised in conjunction with the #BigBeachClean2019 and we were delighted to share it on our blog!

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of a Clean Coasts event? We shared the experience of one of the members of the Clean Coasts team in our blog.

Clean Coasts works with businesses throughout Ireland on corporate volunteering days. These businesses support our Clean Coasts grant by ways of a donation for the day. We are hoping to work more closely with Clean Coasts groups in 2019 to support any much needed coastal work that could be completed by our corporate volunteers. The groups vary in size from 10 to 30 and would be delighted to help with any projects that there may be at your adopted beach. Please contact us at cleancoasts@eeu.antaisce.org if you have any suitable projects in mind.

Do you have a coastal story?
The Clean Coasts Blog is a collection of stories that touches on the experience of Clean Coasts staff and the coast. There stories vary from finding fossils on Sligo beaches to their experience of cold water swimming. We would love to hear your stories which will be showcased on our social media platforms and website. If you have a story to share or would like to write a piece on becoming a Clean Coasts group or any other experience you would like to share. please let us know. We are looking for short pieces using your own voice.
